11 quests

Overview[]

The 11 Chrono Quest Challenge is one of the most difficult solo quest challenge after the release of the Desert update. It consists of completing all 13 Chrono Quests with the exception of the Orange Gem Quest and the Black Wolf Fur Quest. A large amount of skill and experience alongside an in-depth understanding of the game is required. This page will cover the necessary information to complete this challenge. It is even possible to complete 12 quests by filling the inventory before breaking treasure chests to complete the Orange Gem Quest without failure of the rest.

An easier challenge is the "10 quests challenge", where you skip the green gem quest. There is also a "9 quests challenge", where you skip the blue gem quest, so you can make a chapka, peasant's tunic, or turban.

Preliminary Information[]

One full day in Starve.io is 8 minutes long with 4 minutes each for night and day. Thus 7.5 game days is exactly 1 hour long.

One tick is 5 seconds. Every tick the Temperature Gauge drops or raises depending on the biome. This can be used to predict when to place campfires or consume ice in order to minimise resource consumption and time wasted. When in the Winter Biome at night, temperature drops rapidly every tick outside of campfires. When moving, wait till the temperature gauge is either just over half full, or the red bar on the temperature gauge is present but at its lowest to allow 2 and 3 ticks without fire respectively.

Exact recipes should be known for the following items: Campfire, Workbench, Pickaxes, Stone Sword, Golden Sword, Machete, Shovels, Plant Plot, Windmill, Bread Oven, Wheat Seeds, Bridge, Roof.

Knowledge of how to complete each quest individually should be known.

Ordering items in the inventory can allow for quick tool changing. An example is placing pickaxe at slot 1, book at slot 2, sword at slot 3, shovel at slot 4, and ice at slot 5. Auto-feed can be useful once bread is collected. When cooling in the Lava or Desert biomes, the player should wait till the bar is full before consuming a single piece of ice to lower the bar slightly, and repeating every tick when the bar goes back to full. If crafting high tier tools, greater quantities of ice should be consumed beforehand.

Completing the challenge solo indicates that no other players provided direct support during the challenge(eg. placing Campfires that they did not need themselves or dealing damage or killing mobs to help the player rather than themselves). Completing the challenge purely solo indicates that the player did not open any Mob Boxes from mobs that had more than 10% of its health reduced by other players, and no Buildings placed by other players were used during the entire run. This means the player used only their own Workbenches, Campfires, Bridges, Roofs, and so on. These rules are unofficial.

The Green Gem Quest is arguably the hardest quest because it requires the player to survive 4 days without losing any life, often just before entering the Lava Biome. The hardest obstacles include Spiders, Winter mobs, the Dragon, and blizzards. To kill Spiders without being webbed, the player should start to hit the spider before it even strats moving, and keep a distance once it does. Once the spider is on the player, there is a 2-second delay before the web attack, enough time to land 4 hits. Another way is to attack the spider slowly, much like killing an arctic fox. Winter Mobs should be avoided and during farming should be lured away. The Dragon should be killed using either the central Diamond ores in the Cave, the Diamond ores below the Cave, or Walls. Extra precautions should be made to ensure the Dragon does not deal any damage to the player. A Spear is not necessary. Blizzards can be avoided by placing Roofs or being inside the Cave, but one does not take damage if they are in the blizzard for less than 5 seconds (precise timing is not necessary). Sandstorms deal damage ever 2 seconds, and this timer does not reset when the player is under a roof, but the Green Gem Quest will be completed before coming across them.

To collect the points from the quests, the rewards must be claimed. Extra points for Golden Bread can be easily obtained by crafting the Golden Pitchfork, Crown of Life, and Crown of the Angel which should provide an extra 8000 points for each item crafted.

The One Hour Strategy[]

The One Hour Strategy—developed by InDstructR—is currently the fastest strategy for completing the 11 Chrono Quest Challenge. Correct execution of this strategy will result in completion in less than one hour or 7.5 game days, with a theoretical minimum of around 48 minutes or 6 game days under perfect conditions. Its pre-eminence comes from the completion of the Lava Orb Quest in under 5.5 game days; prior to entering the Desert biome. When completed in one hour, these steps should have been followed roughly within the given timeframes.

Forest[]

Here the player must prepare most of the equipment and resources needed to survive Winter. The Forest should be left for Winter at around 10 minutes or 1.25 game days after spawning, but a perfect run will have the player leave at or before the end of Day 1 (indicated by a message at the top of the screen stating "You have survived 1 day"). The optimal spawn time is exactly at the transition between Night and Day, although the overall difference is not major when compared with other spawn times. It allows for easy recognition of the total time survived, and saves the use of the starting Campfire for 4 minutes or half a day, overall allowing for easy resource collection at the beginning of the run.

After the first 2 minutes or quarter of day 1, the player should have crafted a Stone Pickaxe, Stone Sword, and Machete. It is good to know the locations of double and triple resources(groups of trees and stones close enough to be mined at the same time). Extra Wood and Stone does not need to be collected at this point. 5 Wolves and 3 Spiders should be killed within the next 2 minutes for a Book and Bag. It is good to know the locations with little player activity(generally to the left and bottom of the forest) for reduced competition for these mobs. Killing multiple Wolves at once can save time but avoid killing Spiders with any other mobs as being webbed by the Spider even if it is killed afterward can result in the other mobs dealing damage. If spawned at the optimal time, the mobs should have been killed before nightfall and a Campfire should be placed adjacent to a water source. At this point the Book should be crafted using the placed Campfire to craft Paper and then, using the Book, the Bag should be crafted. Afterwards, a Golden Pickaxe should be crafted followed by a Golden Shovel. No other tools will be required before Winter.

Now the rest of the day should be spent gathering Wood, Stone, and optionally Gold for a Diamond Pickaxe(this can be collected easily in Winter). When travelling between resources, the Golden Shovel should be used to gather Dirt until 90 Dirt has been collected. Two Spiders should also be killed to obtain the Thread for Windmills. The Machete can be recycled for inventory space. 6 Wheat Seeds must be collected for farming. 25 Sand is required for a Water Bottle which should be crafted and filled with water. These tasks can be completed simultaneously and should be finished before 10 minutes or 1.25 days.

Winter[]

Winter is one of the hardest parts of the challenge as the Green Gem Quest is yet to be completed and many dangers can result in a failed attempt. At Winter the player must travel to the Cave, prepare for surviving the Lava and Desert Biomes, and complete the three Winter Quests(Blue Orb Quest, Blue Cube Quest, and White Wolf Fur Quest). The player should spend about 16-20 minutes or 2-2.5 game days in Winter and be leaving for the Lava Biome at around 4 days.

Before entering the Winter the player should ensure no Blizzard is currently active(indicated by fast moving snow). If one is active, time can be spent gathering resources in the Forest and crafting Plant Plots. Blizzards occur randomly and so the order that these steps are taken should be based around the timing of the Blizzards. The player should enter at the lower right side of the Winter Biome in order to gather Wood quickly from the long column of Trees that form the Winter's border. Whilst travelling to the Cave at the top of the Biome, the player should collect at least 1500 Wood, 400 Stone, 50 Gold, and 20 Diamonds.

When the player reaches the Cave, a Diamond Pickaxe must be crafted along with six Plant Plots and a Pitchfork. These plots should be placed in a 2x3 rectangle preferably at the top right hand corner of the Winter biome. This is because Winter mobs are less likely to reach here, it has better access to resources, and it is close to both the Cave and the Winter-Ocean entrance. The Wheat Seeds should be planted immediately and the player should enter the Cave and complete the Blue Cube Quest. 60 Amethyst can be collected for Pickaxes, but this can be obtained in the Lava Biome if the resources are depleted. The player should have arrived back at the Plant Plots just before or after the Wheat Seeds have sprouted(100 seconds after being planted). Two Windmills should be crafted. The Wheat should be harvested 9-10 times and placed equally into the two Windmills. While waiting for the Wheat to be turned into Flour, the player should craft and place 4-6 Bread Ovens, craft an Amethyst Pickaxe, a Diamond Shovel, and collect Wood, Stone, Ice, and 40 Diamonds for an obligatory Reidite Pickaxe. Once the Wheat has been turned into Flour, the Flour should be put into the Bread Ovens equally.

Now the player should begin killing a Dragon inside the Cave. If a Blizzard has occurred before the Bread Ovens have been filled with Flour, kill the Dragon during the Blizzard and do the Wheat and Flour steps later. If a Blizzard occurs after the Dragon has been killed, spend the time collecting Ice and other resources. Roofs can be used, but are both time consuming and costly(30 Wood each) and generally result in time being wasted. The Dragon can be killed with a Stone Sword, but a Golden Sword will save about 20 seconds of time. On average the player should be hitting the Dragon once every 2.5 seconds. The Stone Sword takes 79 hits to kill the Dragon and the Golden Sword takes 69 hits. The Dragon should be killed in 3-4 minutes. Once the Dragon is killed the Bread should be finished and be collected from the Bread Ovens, completing the three Winter Quests. The sword can be recycled for inventory space. The Dragon Heart can be kept if the player intends to craft the Crown of the Angel.

The final step is to prepare for the Lava and Desert Biomes. 18 Wheat should have been collected before the plants need water by harvesting once with a Pitchfork and once with a Pickaxe. The Pitchfork can be recycled for inventory space. The Wheat can be crafted into 6 Wheat Seeds now or later on for Desert farming. The player should gather at least 1200 Wood(preferably over 1600), 100 Stone(Stone is abundant in Lava and can be collected there if preferred, the same goes for Gold and Amethyst), 300 Ice(350-400 for safety), and 40 Diamonds. Five Bridges should be crafted, although only one is necessary to cross the Ocean(the remaining four are used to go over Lava Pools and can vary depending on the map). The player should leave Winter around the end of Day 4. The Green Gem Quest will be finished by then and losing life is no longer an issue.

Lava[]

With practice, the Lava Biome can be considered one of the easier Biomes to survive in. This is because it only requires temperature maintenance while Reidite is collected and the Lava Dragon is killed. When a Reidite Pickaxe is used, fighting the Lava Dragon becomes significantly easier, although the fight will last anywhere between 5 and 6 minutes due to the Lava Dragon taking 500 hits to kill. Makesure that you are hitting the lava dragon with each hit or it will take longer. The pickaxe allows for increased mobility for faster hit speeds of around 1 hit per 0.4 seconds on average when considering all factors. It should also be noted that the player should have been in the Lava Biome for at least one day without going back the Ocean at all for water or the Explorer Quest will fail.

Travelling from Winter to the Reidite ores should take about 1.5 minutes or less than 1/4 of a day. During the journey through the Lava Biome, the player should either gather resources or lure a Lava Dragon near the Reidite ores. Upon reaching the ores, the player should collect 30 Reidite for a Reidite Pickaxe, placing the previously crafted Bridges for access to more ores. As soon as this is collected, the pickaxe should be crafted. Be aware of the Temperature Gauge as well as Hunger and Thirst as these should be full and the temperature should be zero when crafting. The Water Bottle can be filled when standing on a Bridge above lava, or when running through a small gap between two circle-shaped pools of lava that resemble a "person's behind". Keep in mind that damage can still be taken if run through with bad execution, and often one must run through once to see where the bottle will appear on the crafting menu, and once more whilst repeatedly clicking in order to craft it. Again be mindful of temperature when crafting. This strategy may be more useful during the Lava Dragon fight. Of course a Campfire can be crafted if preferred.

Once the pickaxe is made, the player should immediately begin killing the Lava Dragon with it. The player should have spent around 3 minutes in the Lava Biome when they start the fight. It is not necessary to avoid other mobs but it is recommended to have only one dragon being killed at the same time as a safety precaution. The player should travel along the border where there are few ores that would get in the way. The Water Bottle will need to be filled once or twice during the fight using any of the methods stated. If the player intends to craft the Lava Sword, Lava Spear, or Lava Helmet, two Lava Dragons can be killed simultaneously and a Machete can be used to obtain the Lava Hearts although this will take about a minute longer.

The last step is to gather the remaining resources required. 750 Stone should be collected, Gold is optional if the player wishes to craft Crown of Life, Crown of the Angel, or a Golden Sword when fighting the Sandworm. 90 Dirt should be collected and possibly crafted into Plant Plots. The Diamond Shovel can be recycled unless the player wishes to make more Water Bottles. Several Bridges should be crafted to cross the Ocean and avoid Sandworms, and Roofs can be crafted if preferred done before knowing if a Sandstorm is occurring. The player should leave Lava around 2 minutes after the end of Day 5, but it is preferred to leave before Day 5 in case a Sandstorm is indeed occurring when the player arrives at the Desert. The Island between the Biomes should be utilised to collect more Wood and reduce the number of Bridges placed.

Desert[]

The final Biome. Only a few more obstacles to overcome and the challenge will be complete. Sandstorms may be an issue but if necessary life can be lost by travelling through it as the Green Gem Quest was already completed. All that needs to be done now is mining Emerald, collecting 100 Bread, and killing a Sandworm without leaving the Desert.

Travelling from the Lava Biome to the Emerald ores takes about 2.5 minutes. Afterward the player should travel to the nearest Oasis. It is good to know the locations of the Desert Oases as they do not show on the map. Here the Plant Plots and Wheat Seeds should be placed along with 2-3 Windmills and 4-6 Bread Ovens. Some of the buildings can be placed on top of Bridges above the water for protection against Sandworms and better water consumption. Once 100 Bread has been collected, the player should craft a Golden Sword, or just a Stone Sword if the player dropped their Gold, as there is about only a 5-6 second difference. Sandworms have the same health as Lava Dragons, but are much easier to kill. If necessary, one can build a 2x2 grid of roofs and kill the sandworm during a sandstorm. It should only take one minute to kill. Once it is killed, the challenge is complete!
