Mobs are entities that move and drop items when killed. Mob spawns depend on the type of biome. There are currently 20 mobs in starve.io: Rabbit, Wolf, Spider, Boar, Hawk, Penguin, Arctic Fox, Polar Bear, Dragon, Baby Dragon, Mammoth, Baby Mammoth, Crab, King Crab, GMO Piranha, Kraken, Lava Monster, Lava Dragon, Baby Lava, Vulture, and Sandworm. There is also a removed mob, Firefly. (You can click the link to navigate to the corresponding section in this page)
All Mobs are aggressive to the player, except 2 passive mobs (Rabbit and Penguin), which never attack players, and 7 neutral mobs (Hawk, Boar, Crab, King Crab, Baby Mammoth, Baby Dragon, and Baby Lava), which only attack players if a player attacks it first.
Rabbit is a mob that spawns in the Forest, which was added in the "Rabbits Are Tasty" update.
It's one of the 2 passive mobs in the starve.io, the other one being the Penguin. The rabbit is faster than the Starver while holding a weapon. However, when the Starver is holding nothing/holding tools, the starver is faster.
Because rabbits are faster than the Starver with weapons, spears are more efficient than swords, as rabbits would run out of the range of the sword very quickly, and spears would get in range frequently. But if you use Golden Sword or higher, You can cause more damage and reduce the number of hits to kill one rabbit. The easiest way to kill them is to make them go to a corner, then swing your weapon. But rabbits may run toward you (after they are cornered) and you can't attack them then. With a stone bow or higher, rabbits can be killed in one hit.
Wolf is an aggressive mob, it runs toward the player upon sight and won't stop until the line of sight is broken or the player is far away. It's slower than the player so you can outrun it easily.
Try to avoid spiders when in a wolf fight, because they can trap you and may kill you with the help of the wolf.
Spider is a mob that was added in the "Attack If You Dare" update.
The spider is an aggressive mob, and as such, it will run towards the player and won't stop if either the line is broken by an obstacle or if the player is too far away. The player can easily outrun the spider, as being considerably slower.
Upon death, the spider will give 2 Cords, which is used to make Bandages, Earmuffs, Coat, and many other useful items. The spider doesn't do as much damage as the wolf but is much faster, and with its trapping ability, more dangerous.
Spider has the special ability to trap you for 2 seconds with its web, during that time, you cannot move and therefore, will receive massive damage from it.
If you're wearing the Lava Helmet you are completely invulnerable to spiders attacks!
Avoid any aggressive or neutral mobs when in a spider fight, because the spider can trap you and may even kill you with the help of other mobs.
Its special ability is to trap players for 2 seconds allowing the spider to catch up and deal with massive damage, but it can only trap you if you are relatively close to it (closer than the range of a sword). The longer a fight with one, the more dangerous it is. Fighting spiders can be deadly if there are other hostile mobs nearby.
If there is a large group of them, avoid at all costs. If you need the Cord, try to lure one away so you can fight 1v1.
It's one of 7 neutral mobs in starve.io, the others being the Hawk, Crab, King Crab, Baby Dragon, Baby Mammoth, and Baby Lava Dragon. The boar is slower then you even with your sword equipped though if you attack, it will go faster than you. The mob is quite strong and is not recommended to fight if you are a beginner.
You have a 10% chance to tame it with a Saddle, which can be increased to 15% by wearing the Crown of Luck; if you tame it successfully (craft a Saddle and hit the boar with it) you can ride the boar, though if it fails, the boar will take damage and attack you.
After you tame a Boar successfully, it will appear in your inventory as a Tamed Boar, but if you fail, the Boar will become aggressive. You can calm it down by leading it to follow you for a while. You can calm aggressive mobs twice as fast by wearing an Explorer's Hat: just left-click near it and it will follow you.
It is one of the few neutral mobs in the game, with the others being Crab, King Crab, Boar, Baby Dragon, Baby Mammoth, and Baby Lava Dragon. The hawk is slower than you even with your sword equipped though if you attack, it will go faster than you. The mob is quite strong and is not recommended to fight if you are a beginner.
Hawk is tameable with a Saddle; you have a 3% chance to tame it, which can be slightly increased by wearing the Crown of Luck. If you tame the hawk he will appear in your inventory as a Tamed Hawk. A Tamed Hawk will take 6 seconds to take off and 3 seconds to land. It will stop taking off if hitting an obstacle.
After you tame a Hawk successfully, it will appear in your inventory as a Tamed Hawk, but if you fail, the Hawk will become aggressive. You can calm it down by leading it to follow you for a while. You can calm aggressive mobs twice as fast by wearing an Explorer's Hat: just left-click near it and it will follow you. Remember that, to tame a Hawk, you need him to be calmed down.
It used to be one of the three passive mobs in the game, the others being Rabbit and Penguin. It has the same speed as a Rabbit, but the hard is you cannot corner it since Firefly can fly through resource nodes, while you definitely cannot.
It just takes you 1 hit with any weapons to catch them (not a pitchfork) but it's not easy. One possible way is to use the Explorer's Hat, approach, and hit it with a Wooden Spear, but it will run away if you miss your first hit.
A Wooden Spear is enough to one-shot this mob.
Penguin is one of the two passive mobs in the game, the other one being the Rabbit. They both can run fast, but to kill a Penguin, you will have to suffer the cold of Winter. It also has more health.
The most efficient way to kill a Penguin is to corner it and attack, but keep in mind that it's really fast and you will soon be lured far away from your campfire.
Along with the Polar Bear and the Mammoth, they are the only three aggressive mobs that can be found in the Winter (except inside the Cave. Arctic Fox is faster but weaker than the Polar Bear, so Players usually prefer hunting Foxes for Winter Fur over Bears, since Polar Bears have a lot more health and deal more damage. Arctic Fox normally moves slower than the player, but when using a weapon it goes faster than you.
Keep a good distance. They have high health and high damage and they can outrun you without proper technique. Circling around a fire is a good strategy.
Spam clicking is a bad idea. Take time to run away from him.

Normally, it will move at a relaxing pace and won't attack players. If attacked by a player, he will become aggressive and will chase down any nearby players at a really fast speed. You should be careful because the damage it deals is quite large (a quarter of your health bar).
A Baby Mammoth can be tamed using a Saddle with 1% of success. If you fail, it will become aggressive and start to attack nearby players. You can calm it down by leading it to follow you for a while, you can also use an Explorer's Hat to calm it down twice as fast.
Mammoth is a boss mob spawning in the Winter. It was recently added to the game during the "Bizarre" update. It's one of 5 boss mobs in the game, the other four being Dragon, Lava Dragon, Kraken, and Sandworm.
Being an aggressive mob, it's going to be hard to kill him as he has the same speed as you, and he can easily kill you in THREE hits no matter what helmet you are wearing.
The best way to kill a mammoth is to take it in the forest, this way you are faster than it and you can kill it with any sword easily it is recommended to kill it with a golden sword/spear to damage it faster
The Baby Dragon is one of seven neutral mobs in the game, the others being Boar, Hawk, Crab, King Crab, Baby Mammoth, and Baby Lava Dragon. When aggressive, it can go quite fast and may become an annoying threat for Players who travel into the Cave.
You have a 1% chance to tame it with a Saddle, which can be increased by wearing the Crown of Luck; if you tame it successfully (craft a Saddle and hit the Baby Dragon with it) you can fly, though if it fails, the Baby Dragon will take damage and attack nearby players.
When farming for meat, players just need one available inventory slot. But it's not recommended to kill Baby Dragons just for meat.
After you tame a Baby Dragon successfully, it will appear in your inventory as a Tamed Baby Dragon, but if you fail, the Baby Dragon will become aggressive. You can calm it down by leading it to follow you for a while. You can calm aggressive mobs twice as fast by wearing an Explorer's Hat: just left-click near it and it will follow you. Remember that, to tame the Baby Dragon, you need him to be calmed down.
Dragon is one of 4 Boss Mobs in starve.io, and the weakest among them, the other 4 being Mammoth, Lava Dragon, Kraken, and Sandworm. It lives in the Cave, which is inside the Winter. It was added to the game in the "Winter is finally here!" update. Since the "Translation, please?" update, Dragons are smarter and more powerful to Buildings and Players.
A Dragon is fast and hard to outrun: when you aren't holding your weapon, it's slower than you; when you are clicking with your tool, you go with the same speed with Dragons; when you are holding your weapon, you are slower even if you don't swing your weapon; and when you click continuously with your weapon, it takes about 1 second to kill you.
To combat this difficulty, players often wall off the dragons so that they get trapped in a corner and can no longer attack them. Since the Christmas Update came out, dragons slowly destroy buildings around it; therefore, it is recommended to use Stone Walls or higher, since Wooden Walls get destroyed ridiculously fast. If you don't have them, you can simply use a wrench to repair the walls. But it is recommended to use a wrench anyway. Working with another player can be effective with one attacking the dragon with a spear, and another fixing the walls with a wrench.
Along with Raw Meat, the dragon drops the Dragon Heart, the item that, in conjunction with the Resurrection Stone, can bring players back to life after death. The Dragon Heart is also used in crafting the Crown of the Angel, Dragon Sword, Dragon Spear and Dragon Helmet. When farming for the Dragon Heart, a player must have at least 2 inventory slots, since the meat will be prioritized over the heart.
Crab is a mob spawning at the Beach, the border between the Forest and the Ocean, it was added into the game in the "Crab in the Bed" update. A Crab is able to move into the Forest, Winter, and the Cave while aggressive.
Crab is one of the seven neutral mobs in the Game, the other six being Boar, Hawk, King Crab, Baby Dragon, Baby Mammoth, and Baby Lava. It's slower than you when you equip a weapon, but if you spam click, it will go faster than you.
An aggressive crab has almost the same speed as the player when holding a weapon, so it's hard to kill this mob if you have little space. It's recommended to engage out of the water, as they pack a punch and hit quickly. Dangerous for beginners.
You have 2% to tame the King Crab by using a Saddle, which will increase when wearing a Crown of Luck. It can travel faster in Water but will slow down in Winter. The damage of Crab Spear will increase to 24 while riding the Tamed King Crab and wearing Crab Helmet.
If you fail to tame a King Crab, it will be aggressive and start to attack nearby players. If you want to tame it again, you can let it follow for a while to calm it down. Using the same method while wearing Explorer's Hat will take twice as less time to calm it down. Another useful method is by using Crab Spear to hit it, just be careful if you are not wearing a Crab Helmet.
If you wonder what GMO stands for, it's Genetically Modified, meaning it was genetically modified to live in the Ocean.
Piranha is a hostile mob that can climb onto bridges (which is above the water) and hurt players. It drops Fish and Piranha Scales upon death, which can be used to craft Diving Mask, Diving Suit, Super Hammer, and Boat.
A Stone Sword or Stone Spear is usually enough to kill the GMO Piranha. Killing piranhas on bridges is a lot easier. The GMO Piranha has the same health as the wolf meaning you can kill it in 14 hits with a gold sword and 16 with a stone sword.
When farming for Kraken Skin, a player should have at least 2 available inventory slots if they want the fish as well. The skin is one of the only mob drops that is prioritized over the food dropped by a mob (which, in this case, is fish)
This is the mob having the most health in the game, and beating even the dragon at the difficulty to kill, as it is faster than a player in the water.
The best way to defeat it is to use around 15 Bridges, use a Reidite Spear for range, use someone as bait, and finally attack in a group. It is recommended to use walls (or other structures) to block the Kraken around it. It is similar to the technique used when defeating Dragons, and yet this may need a player to bait it.
You can also bring it to the edge of the land biome and continue to attack it WHILE STILL MOVING side to side. Also, never fight it in the water, unless you absolutely have to. You WILL die. A Kraken is much easier to fight with a Diving Mask with teammates.
Another method that is very efficient and easy is that you build a three by three cube anywhere in the ocean preferably near the beach. You rig the right and left side with stone walls then you place 3 doors in the middle. Then you lure Kraken inside and use a spear or pitchfork to close all 3 doors, the Kraken will be efficiently trapped inside. Then you can easily kill it by swinging through the walls, but be careful not to open the doors.
It is also very useful to use an amethyst bow (which can kill the Kraken in 10 hits), a Reidite Bow (which can kill it in 7 hits), or you can kill it in just 5 hits using a Dragon Bow. The only problem is that to make a reidite bow, you need 1 Kraken skin, and to make the Dragon Bow, you need a reidite bow so... That's why I included the amethyst bow. It is recommended to use the bows on land (Beach, the edge of a biome, or on an island).
Lava Dragon is one of five boss mobs in the Game, the other four being Dragon, Mammoth, Kraken, and Sandworm. It spawns in the Lava and was added to the game in "It smells like burning (PART 2)" update.
Every weapon that is non-Reidite and non-Lava does only 20% damage to the Lava Dragon. The Lava Dragon is very similar to the Dragon itself, but keep in mind that the Lava Dragon has 500 building damage, so it can destroy Walls easily and certain methods won't work.
Some methods to kill the Lava Dragon involve in using a small Stone node as a barricade and kill it through it. Or a better method is to lead it to the Forest, where it's slower, and kill it like what you would do to kill the Arctic Fox, not to be confused with the Wolf since Foxes are much faster. The problem is Lava Dragon is quite fast in the water, so you will need to walk through it by using Bridges or swimming with Diving Gear.
You have a 0.2% chance to tame it with a Saddle, which can be increased to 15% by wearing the Crown of Luck; if you tame it successfully (craft a Saddle and hit it) you can fly with the Baby Lava, though if it fails, the Baby Lava will take damage and attack you.
With a Diamond/Amethyst/Reidite Protection, you can tame it without worry about your temperature, but you will still need water bottles and food to do so.
Also another efficient method without Heat Protections, you can distract a baby lava to the forest, allowing an easy taming.
Don't try to kill baby lavas! They don't give you lava hearts, also, it makes you feel eviler.
If you just want peace, just place a Roof, stand under it and you are protected from any flying aggressive mobs, just remember that roofs DO heat you up so remember to bring Ice Cubes to eat during the daytime.
A Sandworm is special for its ability to move beneath the sand, the only way to keep it away is to stand on a Bridge. Just remember that Sandworms can deal damage to your buildings.
The sandworm only deal damage to you when you and the sandworm stop moving, and/or you are standing on top of the mouth if you stand on one of the 4 "leafs" of the sandworm. you won't get attacked.
The only way that you can attack a Sandworm is to wait until it goes above the sand and hit it, but it only goes up when it attacks so...
There is however a way to kill a sandworm without taking damage from it. Firstly, create 1-3 bridges, and put them in some location. After you put the bridges, find sandworm and lure it near bridges. Then, when sandworm is near bridges - wait until it shows up as mob. As soon as you see the head of the sandworm, firstly quickly get your sword and then jump onto the bridge. After it came up and you are on the bridge, start hitting it! You will usually land 3-5 hits. After sandworm has hidden, repeat the steps above until it dies.
It is advised to have wrench / more bridges in case current bridges will be broken. Also, make sure to cover bridges with roofs as sudden attacks from vulture or upcoming sandstorms may be a problem while fighting with sandworm.
- When being chased by a hostile mob, remember that they chase you in short bursts of movement (although not the wolf). So if you run around a small object, like a wall, small tree or berry bush, you will most likely lose their aggro.
- Rabbits will run away when approached and are much faster than you. Try using a spear to hunt them, as the extra range will give you the advantage. You can also try driving them into obstacles, or the border of the map. You can also hunt them with a sword by chasing them into trees, stone, or gold nodes
- Keep in mind you can run faster than wolves and Polar Bears, and Spiders are a bit faster than those two (actually easy to outrun). Arctic Foxes are faster than you when you equip a sword while hitting. A Wolf is easy to kite and is surprisingly easy to kill with even the most primitive weapons. However, if you only have a wooden or stone pickaxe, it is recommended to avoid hostile mobs and crabs, as the reach and damage provided by the pickaxe are very small. If you are inexperienced or want to play safe, wait until you get a sword or spear before engaging a wolf or spider. While it is possible to kill a wolf by punching it to death, it is not recommended as your fists don't do a lot of damage and it may take up the better part of the day.
- The common animals of the snow biome, the Polar Bears and Arctic Foxes are EXTREMELY dangerous! The Polar Bears has a large amount of health, and the Arctic Foxes do as much damage as a wolf, are pretty quick (but you're still faster even when you equip a sword), and the freezing temperatures don't help. Make sure to bring along plenty of campfires, as well as a chapka to fight the cold. When hunting for winter fur, run away from the mob in a straight line or continuously walk around a fire and attack them sparsely or if your close to the border go to the border and fight them at the end of the border where they can't get you. Holding any weapon slows you down, so make sure to unequip or stop hitting as soon as possible to gain distance before hitting again. Another approach is to not use a weapon at all and fight with a pickaxe instead. This enables you to keep attacking and not be slowed by your weapon. However, this is NOT advised for players who don't know what they're doing.
- Dragons have HUGE amounts of health, deal heavy damage and move faster than you, so trying to kill them conventionally is suicidal. When going into the dragon cave for amethyst, it is recommended to wear an Explorer's Hat or block them with structures (walls, doors or spikes). However, they can destroy structures fast so it's recommended to use at least Stone Walls and a wrench. If you want to acquire a valuable Dragon Heart, wait for one to move or lure one to the border where you can move up and down as you hit them with a sword.
- When attacking a Boar, try running in a diagonal line for it makes you run just as fast as the boar. This way it is much easier to kill and you will not take as much damage. Also, when attacking a Polar Bear, use the same strategy but try to stay within your fire.
